On our recent trip to Guatemala we met several amazing people who are deeply committed to serving God's call. One of these individuals is Rick Ufford-Chase. Rick is a founder of Borderlinks. Borderlinks. He gave us a very thought provoking excercise in Guatemala economics. Rick had each of us role play the different influences in Guatemala economics. The President, the Bank, US interests, peasants, arms dealers etc...In this summary, Rick gives a similar view of America's impact on the country PCUSA Lecture. What do we as Christians do when we go to a place like Guatemala or any other Third World country where there is a proud, people who like our fellowship but don't want a handout? For americans it is somewhat conflicting. We like to fix things. Help people. In the back of our mind we like to take people under our wing.
